RIP Club Muse

February 1, 2010

Back to the bridge burning front and in this case it’s Burn Baby Burn! For those of you who haven’t had a chance to go to Club Muse in DC, im sure you have already heard of it’s wannabe upscale asshole reputation. When I was first asked by a promoter to do a weekly there I was scratching my head to even think of a way to get my crowd who are down to earth, have an extremely high intelligence for GOOD music, and are down to rage. At the end of the day I was a bit tunnel visioned in trying to make it work because down to earth, musically intelligent party heads don’t go to Club Muse. I went their on a Friday once as a patron to go support a friend who was doing a guest set. The bouncers treated me like shit even though I played their 24 hours before, also the bouncer on the third floor wouldnt let me and the talent sit on a couch that wasnt reserved and nobody was sitting there. So last Thursday they promoted 3 different genres from 3 different promoters and stated that there was NO DRESSCODE for the night. A total of 13 of my friends texted me over the weekend complaining that they got turned away for wearing sneakers. It was 13 degrees outside and the doormen made them stand there and wait with a heat lamp that wasn’t even turned on. They had to stand there for 15 minutes only to be told they cant come in because they are wearing sneakers to a club that promoted a night with NO DRESSCODE. For these people who got turned away I cant express enough how sorry I am for your troubles. I will fall on a sword (frontward’s) for anyone who is kind enough to come out and support any night that I DJ. So the first step in trying to right this wrong is by blogging this to tell the owners, managers, and rude staff of MUSE on behalf of me and everyone treated wrongly to go fuck themselves and to anyone reading this who hasn’t been there to BEWARE because this is the bullshit your going to have to put up with if you ever decide to go there. Oh and of course I forgot to mention the $9.00 rail drinks. If your going to go out of the way to go to a club in DC, there are so many better alternatives.

  1. totally agree. i could go on also. when i played your weekly there was no dj bar tab and if i wanted a drink i had to pay their shitty prices. no one knew what music we were supposed to be playing and people who walked in all looked confused. i never got paid for that night which im not gonna lay on you but needless to say, i will not return to that horrible club.

btw…i djed there memorial day weekend and had drink tix and played a hot dirty south hip hop set on the 2nd floor for the bottle service crowd. it was often. scottie b and king tutt finished off the night there. actually had a good time that night.

  2. true true. Sorry about not getting $$. All of that was being handled by Ackshun Jackson who was throwing the Yo Yo DC party. He worked directly with the managers at Muse and was responsible for payouts. Last Thursday was the first time I didnt get paid which obviously added to the motivation of me trashing Muse. I inquired about drink tickets and got the same response from everybody there. Even the bartenders were shady about the drinks I paid for. When I asked why, they said they were being watched on camera LoLz

  3. I definitely second this.
Those are all reasons why I decided to not do a party there with you guys, even though you and Ackshun are friends for sure.
The way that place is run, it’s a wonder it’s even still open.

  4. the managing bartender asked me if i wanted a shot, and i said sure.

she poured 2 shots (one for herself) then presented with a $24 bill and asked me, “how’d u like to pay for these?” right after we took ‘em

  5. The Russian dude who works the door may or may not be a Bond villain.

  8. Two Steves…one thread…there can only be one Highlander!

  9. I havent been there yet but based on what ive heard and read, I have NO desire of ever visiting this place.

  10. OH I GOT FUCKIN COMMENTS FOR DAYS ON THIS SHIT !

Lil E: had you stayed til I got the payout. you woulda got paid. and like I told you last time I saw you. I got $ for you holla at me when you get back to town. so just holla at me. if I can make it to Kids this weekend I will and ill make sure to settle up with ya then. thank you for comin thru and djing.

Jackie O: you kick ass !

Steve: if you gotta suggestion for a better spot for YOYO! i’m all ears.

Reed: Thanks for this lovely post. I really wanted to talk some shit! first…if I tell ya i’ve got you on the $ I gots you.

    to everyone:

what happened @ Muse with the dresscode bs was news to me too. but due to some shit they’re dealin with they had to implement it a lil bit. The bondish security is kinda scary and the drink prices do need to drop and they did drop them.

as far as a venue… the place is dope. and its not the same 4 or 5 venues that all our type parties currently happen in. I knew theyrd be growing pains on this party. especially since its starting dead of winter and unlike your other parties its not on a fri or sat or even in a venue our crowd frequents and unlike the other electronic dance music parties @ Muse i’m not paying headliners to come instantly fill the place, I’ve done that plenty of times before its too easy and doesn’t really help further us.

with YOYO! I’m actually trying to build a weekly that will be packed with our type music and us djing. And throwing it in a venue that’s not one of the usuals will also eventually bring more people into our shit because right now our sceen is always the same people at all the same venues. which is cool… but theres very few new faces and its so boxed in now that a different crowd doesn’t even feel comfortable comin out.

I am not sure what if any future YO YO DC has at Muse. I have had other venue options and I also have to see what’s goin on with them as far as the dress code and if they even want us there anyway

    • I don’t know why but half my reply (the good part with all the fuck yous and thank yous) didn’t post. I think its cause I posted it from my PDA and it kept refreshin.

      But anyways.

I’m not gonna try and remeber all the shit.

      - Ackshun
