Tracks like these are exactly why people ask me if i “live in The Wire” when they find out I’m from Baltimore. For his latest mixtape, “Hardcore”, Baltimore producer, Murder Mark, collected a thirty minute cross-section of some of Baltimore club’s hardest, most aggressive tracks. Ranging from Rod Lee to KW Griff to Blaqstarr to Murder Mark’s own original productions, “Hardcore” is goin’ straight backbacon on yawl. Don’t get me wrong – we’re havin’ a good time up here in Baltimore, but we ain’t fuckin’ around. Aggressive synths, grimey bass, and sprinkles of gunshots, you know we mean business!!

You can’t really tell by how devoted he is to the genre now, but Murder Mark used to hate Baltimore club. I have since forgiven him for this obvious misstep, but he’s made penance by creating some wildin’ ass club music and even by being named City Paper’s Best Club Music Producer for 2010. Mark’s keepin’ it tight and stays in the lab workin’ on fre$h beats. He’s makin’ a name for himself, Baltimore club, and our violently charming city of Baltimore. Get you some.

Time to combat that 2:30 Feeling with a mix from Philly’s Skinny Friedman. “Pre Party Jamz” is the 129th Volume in the set at Nicky Digital, so if you like what you hear from Skinny, there’s much more where that came from. Lucky for you, me, and every other hurting soul out there that’s felt the wrath of Monday, Skinny’s mix includes a quick selection of hip-hop, club, and dubstep that’ll get you movin’ and groovin’ again.

If you’re not too familiar with Skinny Friedman, allow this mix for Nicky Digital to be a stepping stone. With DJ Apt One, he forms the DJ and production duo known as Philadelphyinz, who create everything from hip-hop, house, disco, and now moombahton. Skinny also has a heavy presence in New York with Fools Gold’s Sammy Bananas by throwing a popular “off-night” party at Pianos.

Sup yawl. Stoop here. I’ma keep it low and slow this morning with Gucci Mane’s latest mixtape, “Trap Back”, which just dropped yesterday before the Superbowl. IT’S GUCCI TIME! ”Trap Back” is Gucci’s first release since he was freed from the slammer and I must say….it’s been well-worth the wait. (HOLIDAY SEASON!) So put your finest stank face on and get rockin’.

Most of “Trap Back” was produced by Mike Will and features guest verses from Flocka, Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz, and more of his hoodrat friends. This shit is tight if you like trap music. There ain’t nothin’ wrong with slowin’ it down every once and a while and maybe dabblin’ in a bit of that lean ya know. Sike. I don’t even know what the fuck Gucci’s talkin’ about half the time but whatever yo.

Pro-tip: For a fun way to get rip-roaring drunk, try taking shots every time you hear “HOLIDAY SEASON!”

Hi guys. Stoop here with your Mixtape Monday: Adderall Edition! Today’s mixtape is brought to you by Red Bull powder, lines of finely ground coffee, and shiny things.

This “2011 Mega Mega Mix”, curated by DJ Q of BBC Radio 1Xtra, really is truly and insanely MEGA. It’s only 37 minutes in duration but touts an 83-track tracklist (WHAT). I kid you not. I was half-expecting this to sound kinda sloppy and just way too over-the-top but it turns out to be an excellent mix. It’s extremely energetic, cohesive, and a very impressive way to make the most out of a best-of mix.

You WILL NOT be bored with this mix as it jumps around from track to track, including bass-heavy hits from Rusko, Hudson Mohawke, Toddla T, Redlight, and (about 80) more. You could pop this in on your commute to work and have a mini-rager right in your car. Or step up your lunchtime game by listening to this while you do work on a bacon i-can-has-cheeseburger. Fuck Monday right in its butt.

Sup, guise. Glad you see you all are still alive to see another Mixtape Monday. But I can’t say the same for my boy, Billy Cundiff. OOF. Like, how does that happen? Just another one of life’s unanswered questions, I guess.

Allow me to drown my sorrows in some tasty tunes from the young bol, Star Slinger. I’ve posted one of his mixes before, probably because he’s one of my favorite selectors in the game right now. He has this impeccable ability to mix fresh, new tunes with revamps of old school hits and make it all sound like one unified jam sesh. Not only that, but he’s like the Wolfgang Puck of cutting samples and cookin’ up the dopest track out of them. So in all of his mixes, you’ll hear his own unique productions juxtaposed with some of today’s hottest club tracks and then he’ll sprinkle in some reworks of old school tracks that make you, “AW SHET I REMEMBER THIS SONG!” I dunno how he does it so well but I eat it up!

So today’s mix is celebrating his new club night in Ljubljana, “Jet Jam”, where it’s not about genre or bpm but more about party people just gettin’ loose and happy. And that’s exactly what he accomplishes in this mix – tons of feel good vibes and happy times. There’s a few Star Slinger originals on there including a brand new collab with Chippy Nonstop called “Sippin”. Also, “Rack City” make a special guest appearance and I’m not sick of that song yet so that works. Plus some Crookers and Buraka Som Sistema!? CMON SON. We’re having fun now. Then he throws in some “Indian Flute” and “Jump” by Kriss Kross?! Game the fuck over.

This joint took me a good 4 days to recover so either I’m getting old fast or this shit was Bonkers. A million thank you’s to everyone who came out to eat, drink, and rage themselves retarded Sunday night in 20 degree weather. Just about everyone I saw there was some how connected to the H.O.R. family which is awesome and humbling at the same time. Thanks to 814ofcourse for making the ribs which lasted about 20 minutes and for good reason. Also shout out to POPS and SHINNY cameras for helping out with the mics and photos. Thanks to all the DJ’s who gave their Holiday Sunday to come out and wreck shop. Special thanks to Shawn at Ov3rkill Entertainment and Molly over at One Love Massive who helped promote this event with me. I was blown away at the fact we had an event on H St and had all of our own people there which allowed us to play the music like and throw the kind of party we want. Ayo it’s ya girl STOOPGIRL in da heezy. I’ma keep it way short this week because my life is still hurting from Moombacon Massive last night. I know yall made it out to Rock & Roll Hotel last night, right? Not only was it totally bananas, but thirty pounds of bacon had been consumed by midnight. THIRTY POUNDS. Not to mention all the ribs and chicken – GONE. I know yall had to be hurtin’. Jumpin’ around the dance floor with mad swine in ya stomach. Washin’ it all down with PBRs, too. Man. We’ve got some true ragers in the HOR Camp.

Lucky for yall, I made it out alive last night. I’m proud to say that I survived another Moombacon Massive. But um, yeah. Not tryin’ to hear any loud noises or see any kind of sunlight for the rest of the month, ya dig?

So the mix I have to for ya today, Drop The Lime’s “Winter (Afterhours Mix)”, is the perfect way to enjoy life with the lights down low. Drop The Lime packed this mix full with tried-and-true old school vibes from across the board – blues, rock, reggae, and electronic tunes. ”Winter” is real deep and cinematic – something you want to feel while you’re driving home late at night. And when Bruce Springsteen’s “State Trooper” hits in it’s particularly haunting way, you know you’re on the the most important ride of your life right here. And there’s no quitting ’til it’s over.

Mixtape Monday ft. Fade to Mind Mix via The Fader

Today’s Mixtape Monday is brought to by a dope mix curated by the forward-thinking Fade to Mind record label for The Fader magazine. This Fade to Mind Mix is bursting with the fre$hest new bass tunes, heralding this kind of futuristic twinkling and boom baps but softened by Ciara, Beyonce and Tweet’s sensual R&B serenades. It’s full of rage energy and extra bass, but gentle enough (at times) to get some electric relaxation.

All the artists on this mix are either housed by Fade to Mind or its sister label from London, Night Slugs. Both of these labels have the same goal – to pro-actively and collaboratively bring bass music to the forefront of the music scene via innovative artists with like-minded initiatives. Clearly, this is an act of kismet. The Kingdom-led Fade to Mind label pulled artists and tracks from both labels to procure a Fader Mix so harmonic and synchronized that I can hardly even tell who is who sometimes. With this mix, I wouldn’t dare say it’s a bad thing – each artist clearly has their own flavor and you can certainly taste them within this forty-minute journey, but it’s just so impressive how well each artist meshes so well with the next.

Imagine walking into your crib and seeing Reed Rothchild just lampin’ in the laziest of La-Z-Boys, fre$h bloody mary in one hand and crispy bacon in another, all while nodding approvingly to the beat of these fine tunes. I mean, this is what I see when I listen to our own DJ Smudge‘s latest mix, smoothdiscobacon. An hour compilation of the smoothest nu disco, house, and funk tracks he could get his hands on, DJ Smudge totally came correct with this one. It’s as smoov as my pickup lines after a few vodka dranks and as fre$h as Smudge’s own beard. Seriously.

Mixtape Monday ft. “New Years Eve Mix” by Major Lazer

HAPPY NEW YEAR, YA HORS! I hope yall drank yourselves into oblivion and have lived to tell about it. Supposedly it’s like, The Last Year on Earth so let’s make some bad decisions and we’ll worry about the regrets next year.

Anyway, here’s a short mixtape Major Lazer worked up for the Annie Mac show on BBC Radio 1. Only twenty minutes long, this “New Years Eve Mix” is bursting with so much energy that it feels like you’ve just freebased coffee grounds.

No tracklist for this one but most of the tracks are reworks of songs you already know – “Pon de Floor”, “Original Don”, “The Motto” (Tyga, Weezy, & Drake), “We Found Love” (Calvin Harris & Rihanna), and more.
